Newsom Says He’s Always Had an ‘Insurgent Mindset’

NEWSOM: "This notion that there’s something bigger happening, I think what is happening here is just a desire for change. I think this notion of insurgency over incumbency is the real message here. And people just want fighters. They want people with conviction, strength, clarity, people that get it and want to get things done. They don’t want the status quo and I totally respect that. I've long felt like I've been an established insurgent. I've always had that mindset. I've been in elected office a long time, but I’ve never been naive about people’s desire for change, including my own desire to change, for improvement, for self-reflection. And I think for every incumbent Democrat and incumbent Republican, I think that is important to consider. I think that's very much alive at this moment because we're deeply anxious about this country, not only the architecture of this country which is being assaulted by Trump every single day, but by these trend lines that are now headlines. And that is the fact that we’re living in a time where just 10% of the people own two thirds of the wealth, 10% of people own 93% of the equities. It’s a portfolio economy, not a paycheck economy. People are pissed."
