Peter Baker on Sen. Cassidy’s Support for Todd Blanche: They’re Sticking with the Party, the Loyalty Is Very Strong
RUSH EXCERPT:
BAKER: "Well, it’s not really surprising, I guess, because what we’ve seen is even these senators, even these Republican senators who don’t owe President Trump anything, who who lost primaries because President Trump campaigned against them, like John Cornyn and Bill Cassidy are still sticking with the party. You know, and it just shows you party loyalty is very strong in this day and age. Trump continues to have a lock hold on his party on most important matters. Doesn’t mean he wins everything. He can’t win on some things. He wants them to pass his voter restriction bill. They’re not going to be able to pass that. But on something like blanche, which is a test of personal loyalty, he has managed to to to make that happen. And you’re right, it’s curious because cassidy is leaving the Senate at the end of the year, in part because Trump campaigned against him and doesn’t therefore need to to stick with him. And yet he couldn’t he couldn’t bolt. It looked like."
