Peter Baker on Trump’s Economy: It Reminds Me of Biden’s Messaging Which Was ‘Don’t Trust What You’re Seeing,’ I’m Telling You the Economy Is Better
RUSH EXCERPT:
BAKER: "Yeah. His messaging kind of reminds me of what Joe Biden’s messaging was, which is, yeah, don’t trust what you’re seeing in your own lives. Tell trust what I’m telling you. And I’m telling you the economy is better. Well, that didn’t work for Biden. And it doesn’t look like it’s working right now for President Trump. And this is particularly striking because the economy has been one of his political strengths. A lot of voters always a lot of voters, trusted him on the economy. That’s one of the reasons they voted for him again in 2024. They thought the first term was pretty good. They give him credit for being a successful businessman, and they think he can do good things for the economy, and they haven’t seen it. We just saw just yesterday the jobs report was disappointing. Not only did they not create new jobs, they lost jobs. That’s a big, big problem, I think, for a president in selling this message that the economy is doing well. It is true. The markets are doing well. But other than people who are investing in stocks, if you’re looking to, you know, pay at the pump or pay at the grocery store, you’re having trouble. Now, the White House theory of the case is if they find a way to get this Iran war resolved in the near future, and they have hopes that they can. But they’ve been saying that. But they have hopes that they can. Then the gas prices will start to come back down and people’s mood will change, and they have still a chance in these last 80 some days to to turn things around."
