Sam Stein on the Ballroom: If You’re Struggling and Trump’s Focus Is on Gold Ornaments in the Oval Office, ‘It Begins to Wear Thin’

STEIN: "Yeah, 100%. I mean, when you see the family get involved in all this government contracting, when you see them profiting from the crypto business, when you see them making literally hundreds of millions of dollars and you’re struggling to afford gasoline, of course it’s going to break through. Corruption is a very powerful political tool when you can wield it. And I think Democrats would be very wise to do so. And look, he’s not necessarily profiting per se, from the ballroom, but certainly this gets to the corruption element too. Right. Who again, who is funding the ballroom? Do we know who where the private sources of funding are? Do we know who’s donating to them and what kind of favors they are getting? All this stuff kind of ties together, which is he’s looking out for these vanity projects. He’s more interested in beautifying Washington, D.C. which, by the way, is kind of crazy and ironic too, right? Like, here’s the guy who said D.C. doesn’t get it. I’m for the people outside. You see, he is literally spending so much capital, real and political, beautifying Washington, D.C. Like meridian hill park. Like, does someone in Ohio care what meridian hill park’s fountains look like, honestly? And then on top of that, and I’ll just stop talking here. He’s he’s refiguring the cabinet around these things too, right? Like Doug Burgum is the interior secretary. It’s a pretty substantial job. Doug Burgum, it’s a big country day is spent on things like the. Yeah, it’s a big country. A big chunk of his day is spending on producing evidence of fake vandalism at the reflecting pool. I think if you’re an average human being out there in the, you know, in the middle of the country and you’re struggling and maybe you’re unemployed and look, the numbers are horrible today. One of the things about the numbers today is that people are being are staying unemployed for a long time, six months or more. And you watch the president just unable to focus on anything other than the gold ornaments in the Oval Office and the corinthian columns. It begins to wear thin."
