Yemisi Egbewole: Abdul El-Sayed Must Reach Out to Black Voters and Focus More on Domestic Issues

EGBEWOLE: "Yeah. And he is going to have to find ways to moderate, to get those voters that were so attached to Haley Stevens. And frankly, I wanted Haley Stevens to win. I did think that she would be more competitive in a general. But the people of Michigan have spoken, and so Abdul has to figure out a way to win the working class voters that he speaks so highly of. And also, he‘s got to win the black demographic. She did overwhelmingly well with black voters. I‘ve had a little back-and-forth with his campaign about reaching out to black voters, and they believe that his presence with black voters is strong, but presence is not persuasion. And we know that black voters tend to be more moderate, and I think that he‘s going to have to focus maybe less on some international issues and more on the domestic issues that do affect the day-to-day lives. But I‘m excited to watch Abdul figure out a way to win in this general, and I think he‘s going to have a really strong path forward."
