ABC 7: San Bernardino Sheriffs Detective Shot After Trying to Serve Narcotics Warrant
EXCERPT:
VELEZ: "Well, Mark, Michelle, we’re here at the Antelope Valley Hospital, where we were told that deputy was airlifted earlier this afternoon after an apparent shootout. I can tell you, within the last 10 minutes, sheriff’s helicopters have been in and out of this hospital. We also see dozens of deputies here anxiously awaiting any updates on that deputy. As of now, we’re not yet sure how he is doing or what condition he is in. We are also anxiously awaiting those updates. But as we go into video, you can take a look from above, Immediately after, that deputy was brought in here to the hospital. You can just see how much action is happening at the entrance of this emergency room. Many of those officers trying to stand alongside their wounded brother. What we’re told is that, like Mark mentioned, this happened in a desolate area east of Palmdale. From the Air 7 vantage point, we saw two white SUVs, one of them apparently had the windows blown out. We also see a bulletproof vest laying next to one of those SUVs. We are told that that bulletproof vest was taken off of the deputy by EMS as they were trying to perform lifesaving measures, including CPR. Everything happened incredibly quickly. And for context here, this was a San Bernardino sheriff’s deputy who was serving out a warrant as a detective in Los Angeles County. That’s why the Los Angeles County sheriff’s department is also here awaiting updates, as this investigation continues.”
