Al Sharpton: ‘It Would Be Wise’ for Abdul El-Sayed to Look at How Mamdani, AOC Did It
EXCERPT:
RUHLE: "So, should El-Sayed be looking to the likes of Zohran, [Alexandria] Ocasio-Cortez, who have figured out how do I bring this coalition together."
SHARPTON: "I think that it would be wise to look at how they did it. They looked beyond just their so-called progressive base and dealt with people's issues in other communities. And I think that that's the model. I think you cannot be so extreme that people don't feel you understand their day-to-day life. They want progressives, but progressive for who? Whose progress? If I'm sitting in a certain community and you're talking something that doesn't relate to me, you're not progressive to me because you're not talking about my progress, you're talking about your progress. And I think that he can learn from AOC and Mamdani and them, who've been able to be beyond just the label and say, I understand you and we need to do this about it. And the more he can tie him to Trump, that Trump is your problem.”
