Pete Buttigieg Rejects the Idea that He’d Be Better Suited for a Less Polarized Era of Politics
‘If I was born two years earlier than I was, it would have been impossible to even get reelected’
EXCERPT:
BUTTIGIEG: “Born too late? What do you mean?”
MARTIN: “That you would have been a better fit in the Birch Bayh era, that you’re somebody whose style, whose politics, frankly, would have been better in a sort of less heated, less pugilistic moment that is more consensus-oriented.”
BUTTIGIEG: “I mean — first of all, I’m gay and I’m from Indiana, so I was born two years earlier than I was. It would have been impossible, I think, to even get reelected.”
