Krystal Ball Calls Haley Stevens’ Campaign ‘Desperate’

EXCERPT:

BALL: "It’s just all feels very desperate, very astroturf. I saw someone had posted — she printed signs that says 'Stick it to 'em,' and Abdul has signs that say like, 'Medicare-for-all,' 'Get money out of politics,' you know, it has his specific platform planks. And to me it just demonstrates the perfect distillation of the difference between their campaigns, because he’s got substance, specific plans backed up by a worldview and an ideology that is consistent and thought through, and she’s got platitudes about how she’s gonna fight hard, she’s gonna stick it to 'em 'cause that’s the Michigan way. Like, it’s meaningless. It doesn’t have any content to it. And so that’s why she just ends up being for sale by the highest bidder, because there’s nothing else that she’s willing to fight for or interested in fighting for in a way that would need her to standing up against sort of those entrenched interests. So I see that, I see these racialized attacks, which are really disgusting. I mean, Abdul, if I can remind everybody, is the person of color in this campaign, and yet we’re being told that his campaign, the people who are voting for him are not diverse enough. Now we have this whole attack on, 'Oh, you people are so toxic and you’re sexist against Haley Stevens,' etc., which is just a rerun of the toxic Bernie bros conversation from 2016 and again in 2020. It all just feels like they’re looking at polls that have her down and kind of desperate and throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks."
