Rahm Emanuel: Democratic Socialists Are a ‘Distraction’ for Midterms; ‘You Want This To Be Totally About Donald Trump’
EXCERPT:
EMANUEL: “Here, the distraction from the democratic socialists actually adds a weight. And the party doesn‘t have a deep bench of support. You want this to be totally about Donald Trump, his corruption, and this war. And there you have policies from defunding the police to decriminalizing the prison system, to open borders. And we‘ve tried that. And it‘s politically, electorally, a failure. And the policies are wrong. They‘re not Democratic Party policies. Now, I just came back, as I say in the piece, from Omaha, a great candidate, Denise Powell. We lost three times. This is one of the few districts Kamala Harris won that had a Republican congressman, and they‘re calling her ‘DSA Denise’. And she‘s a moderate. Now, she can either prosecute the race on the fact that the city councilmember she‘s running against voted against the minimum wage, or take her precious resources and try to distinguish herself from the DSA. But you can‘t do both. And so, my point is, what happens in New York 13th district doesn‘t stay in New York 13th district. And that‘s a burden on us who want to see Donald Trump have a checkmate from Congress, not a rubber stamp from Congress.”
