Texas Gov. Abbott: Any Agency in the State of Texas We Find Is Involved in Birthright Tourism Will Be ‘Death Penalty for a Business’

ABBOTT: “If you remember Justice Alito and Justice Clarence Thomas, they pointed out that birth tourism and things like that will result because of the majority opinion in that case. And we've seen it exist in the state of Texas. Recently we found out that two hospitals in South Texas were advertising in Mexico to have your baby in Texas. The Texas attorney general separately has brought a lawsuit against a medical facility in the Houston area for advertising birth tourism, saying that they provided it for more than a thousand people. That organization or a medical center in Houston, they cater primarily to people in China. Those are two that we found that were advertising openly about it. And so what I decided to do was to make sure that any agency in the state of Texas involved in whatsoever in providing licensing to any health care provider, they must be investigated to determine whether or not they are involved in birth tourism. And if so, take action against them, including what I call the death penalty for a business, and that is to pull their license so they would not be able to operate.”
