Marc Elias: The 6600 Non-Citizens Registered to Vote in NJ ‘Did Not Commit Voter Fraud’
EXCERPT:
ELIAS: “Look, I mean, Donald Trump is going to take advantage of everything that he thinks he can turn into political hay. And this is just an example. But let’s be entirely clear, these individuals did not commit voter fraud. They didn’t commit voter registration fraud. They actually showed up at the election office, as far as we can tell, told the election officials that they are not U.S. citizens. So, like, the SAVE Act would not have done anything.”
MENENDEZ: “Mm-hmm.”
ELIAS: “These people were not trying to prove U.S. citizenship and try to register to vote. They were like, we’re not U.S. citizens. They checked the box, not U.S. citizenship and not U.S. citizens. And due to some SNAFU on the back end on the software, and they got flagged in the system as U.S. citizens. So, you know, there’s no conspiracy to commit voter fraud here. There’s no effort here to undermine free and fair elections.”
