Dem Sen. Warner on Platner: We Do Need Better Vetting But ‘at Least We’re Having an Ideological Debate’

‘There is no Republican Party anymore, there’s a group of Trump sycophants’

EXCERPT:

WARNER: "Listen, I think we saw in Maine the problem when we — when folks fall in love with a candidate without appropriate vetting. You know, anybody that’s going to go into elective office, you know, you gotta go through your record. Now, again, people will say, 'Well, hold it. Donald Trump has done all these things.' I think we do need better vetting. I would also say this: At least we’re having an ideological debate in the Republican Party — I’m sorry, in the Democratic Party. There is no debate in the Republican Party. There is no Republican Party anymore. There’s a group of Trump sycophants. This sounds ironic from a Democrat, but I want there to be a strong center-right Republican Party that we can argue with civilly. And I think the only way you get a center-right Republican Party back is if we kick their butt this year, so that the MAGA venom, which is not ideological, but at the most extreme, is kind of returned. And maybe that would allow the Democrats as well to move back to an engagement where we debate policy, but who can actually deliver goods immediately to the American people. We need to speed that up on the Democratic side."
