Hugo Lowell on Fines and Prison Time Threats from the Trump Admin: They Want to Get the SAVE Act Passed, But They Don’t Have the Votes for It
RUSH EXCERPT:
LOWELL: "I think a lot of the Trump Administration’s actions relate to the midterms, obviously, right? They want to get the save America act passed. They don’t have the votes for it in the Senate. And so they are trying to turn the screw on states, principally with democratic governors. So blue states that they feel like they can really pressure and use federal grants and federal aid as leverage. And, of course, this runs counter to how elections are run, because elections are the purview of the state, and it is not in the purview of the federal government, as Trump discovered in 2020, when he was trying to get the Justice Department to open federal investigations into voter fraud. But I think it also shows like the admin writ large is trying very much to turn this into a thing. It’s not clear yet whether Trump intends to use his claims about voter fraud, obviously harking back to his primetime remarks on Thursday to lay the groundwork for saying, you know, if Republicans don’t win big in November, if Democrats win the house, it gives them a basis to say, you know, the elections might have been fraudulent."
