Rep. Morelle on Midterms: Trump Is Trying to Sow Confusion So That He Can Use ‘Extraordinary Powers’ to Take the Vote Away from the American People

‘The president knows virtually nothing about the American election system’

EXCERPT:

MORELLE: "That is what he is trying to do. Sow so much confusion about it that he can use extraordinary powers to try to take the vote away from the American people. Why? Because I think he fears the verdict of the American people. He watches what’s happening, he reads the polls, he watches television. He knows how badly it’s going because his policies have been a disaster. But this is a fundamental effort to weaken the foundation of our democracy, and which is why we are spending inordinate amounts of time trying to make sure that the federal government and this president doesn’t disrupt the vote in the midterm elections. And look, my job in Congress isn’t to put my finger on the scale to help Democrats. Yes, I’m a Democrat. I’m a proud Democrat. But our job is to make sure that Americans who are registered to vote get access to the ballot and their ballots are counted, and that the will of the American people is reflected in the election outcomes. That’s it. All the other stuff he said is nonsense. I have no idea what he’s even talking about.”
