Dagen McDowell Blasts Big Tech for Data-Driven Efficiency, Ignoring Human Cost: ‘I Am Done Carrying Water for These Tech Companies’
EXCERPT:
MCDOWELL: “Let me just say, I am done carrying water for these tech companies, trying to explain the benefits of AI and how — and trying to right the wrongs that they refuse to come out and do themselves. Part of the problem is that these giant tech companies got so enormous and made so much money by scaling their businesses so mercilessly. Human beings are treated like costs in their businesses. They’re data-driven and not people-driven. That, say, Google has a market cap north of $4 trillion and it got that big by not engaging with humans. Amazon, $2.7 trillion market cap. They’re maniacally focused on efficiency and ruthlessly scaling to eliminate the parts in their businesses and not actually having to deal with you. In fact, the you is the us, we’re not the customers. We are, you know, the customers are businesses at Google that say buy ads.”
