Marc Elias: People Need to Have Confidence Their Vote Will Count in These Midterms, But That Doesn’t Mean Trump Won’t Try to Undermine It
EXCERPT:
ELIAS: "So, the Constitution gives the states the power to set the time, place and manner of elections subject only to congressional enactment. There has been no congressional enactment, obviously, giving the president that power. So he simply lacks the power or the authority to do many of the things that he claims, or that his supporters claim he should do. The states and the localities can push back, and also private parties can push back. Look, I’m — my law firm and I, we are suing Donald Trump or states or are involved in litigation against vote suppressors in 80 cases in 43 states. So there’s already a lot of litigation, and there will be more. And people need to have confidence that they can vote, that their vote will count, but it doesn’t mean that Donald Trump won’t try to undermine that or sow doubt."
