RASKIN: “So in order to rein back in this out-of-control court, which is just inventing doctrines out of thin air in order to undermine our democracy, like in the Citizens United case, where suddenly corporations were endowed with all the political rights of the people, or the fabrication of a new presidential immunity for prosecution for felony crimes committed in office, what we’re saying is, okay, let’s begin to establish the same kind of ethical guidelines that apply across the government. This applies in Congress, it applies theoretically to the executive branch, and it should apply to federal judges and to the Supreme Court. Nobody should be taking more than $50 gifts from anybody, much less $50,000 or $500,000 gifts from people who are outside of their families."
