Manchin Remembers Lindsey Graham & Kavanaugh Vote: ‘I Wish the Public Would Have Seen the FBI Report’
EXCERPT:
MANCHIN: “I went down in the SCIF and like Lindsey would say, ‘Joe, just go find out for yourself. Go look at the FBI report. Go look at all the things.’ Now, here could be a man who had been stellar performance. And then I uncovered everything I possibly could and I could not find anything that basically put the two people together that were making the accusations against him. And I wish they — I wish the public would have seen the FBI report — I don’t know why they didn’t make it public — and things that we were able to see. Because it was — I just could not make a vote that would destroy a person’s life. I did not find the facts. I think Lindsey appreciated it, because he knew I dove deep into it to find out is there something I’m missing. Because his performance was not stellar. Brett Kavanaugh’s performance when he came before the hearing and he got pretty much rattled up. But that still didn’t justify, well, I’m just going to be against this man and it’ll destroy his life. He had been a stellar jurist. He’s been on the D.C. court. He just — people he worked with, everything looked good. And I said, Lindsey, ‘I can’t find a reason to vote against him other than being a political.’ And he says, ‘Joe, I appreciate that. I really do.’ And I said, ‘That’s where I’m at, buddy.’”
