Marc Elias: Donald Trump ‘Does Not Have the Authority to Cancel Elections’

‘That said, there are a lot of things he can do that will make it harder for people to vote‘

RUSH EXCERPT:

ELIAS: “Yeah. So look, I think that what people need to be prepared for is that, number one, we’re going to have elections. Donald Trump does not have the authority to cancel elections. You know, there’s been a lot of talk about Donald Trump declaring some kind of state of emergency and, you know, taking over elections. Let me be clear. Donald Trump can declare whatever he wants. He can declare his arch is the greatest arch ever. And that the, the, the that the reflecting pool is sparkling blue rather than algae green. But it doesn’t make it true. And the Constitution gives Congress, I’m sorry, gives the states the power to set the time, place and manner of elections subject only to legislation enacted by Congress. It gives the president no role. So, number one, he can’t cancel elections. That said, there are a lot of things he can do that will make it harder for people to vote and easier for Republicans afterwards to cheat."
