Waldman on Trump’s Purge of an Election Agency: The Justice Department Needs to Stop Trying to Put Its Thumb on the Scales
RUSH EXCERPT:
WALDMAN: "I could tell you, but that would the fact is that they are now going to try across the government to move the president’s power over these agencies. And it is really striking that the very first one that they went after in this manner is the one dealing with elections. Already we see his control over the Justice Department being part of what professor Murray just said, sowing doubt and wreaking havoc. We know that there have been raids by the FBI and the Justice Department just designed to mess with election officials. And just a few days ago, a federal judge, one appointed by President Trump, threw out the subpoenas of election workers in Atlanta, in Fulton County, Georgia, from the Justice Department. We’re the agency I’m most worried about right now is not one of the kind of agencies with letters and alphabet soup, but the Justice Department that needs to stop trying to put its thumb on the scales."
