U.S. Launches ‘Powerful Strikes’ Against Iran After Ships Struck in Strait of Hormuz
EXCERPT:
SHERMAN: “Yeah, we’re seeing instability on multiple different fronts here, Kellie, with American forces now striking targets in Iran. This is following the same sequence that we’ve seen in the past. The focus is along military sites that are on the Strait of Hormuz, that are right along that key waterway there, which was the site of multiple attacks on commercial vessels over the last 24 hours. At least three of them that have been publicly reported by British maritime officials. One of them was a Qatari LNG tanker, which the Qataris, who have played a role in mediating this issue with Iran, have come out and condemned today. You’ve also heard that UAE coming out and condemning some of these attacks as well, same with Saudi Arabia, just within the last few hours here. But these new attacks have certainly caused quite a bit of tension to be added into the region. We just heard from the Treasury Department a short while ago, which announced that they were waiving, that they were doing away with the sanctions waiver that had been given to Iran for their sales of Iranian oil. So, you’ve seen a lot of mechanisms moving here today. Certainly a couple of days ago, things looked as though they were stabilizing in the Strait of Hormuz. But now at this hour, that is certainly not the case.”
