Shaniqua McClendon: Trump’s Fourth of July Speech Feels Like ‘Overly Political’... ‘Underwhelming’

‘Some history and highlights of the country mixed into it’

EXCERPT:

McCLENDON: "You know, it felt like a rally speech. He told us a few weeks ago that this is going to be a big rally speech for him, so I guess we got what he told us he was going to deliver. But overall, it did not really rise to the moment of the 250th anniversary of this country. It felt like an overly political speech with, you know, some history and highlights of the country mixed into it, but just really underwhelming. Something that really stood out to me, I mean, there were a lot of things that he could have touched on, but even if you don’t agree with Barack Obama, the country electing its first black president was a really big deal that happened in our recent history, and he didn’t touch on that. So, you know, it felt like he was speaking to a pretty narrow crowd. And so, you know, I’m sure those people think that he did a great job, but it just really felt, you know, like it didn’t stand up to what this moment really is."
