Sen. Cory Booker: Corruption ‘Perhaps the Number One Cancer That’s Hurting Our Country’
RUSH EXCERPT:
BOOKER: “How many justices, what their jurisdiction is, what kind of cases that come up can do it. So I’m just one of these people that there is a radical middle here. Most Americans agree on term limits for Supreme Court members. So you don’t get some ailing member that’s trying to hold on until there’s a president of their party. That means a Supreme Court justice, in effect, picking their next person because they’re waiting for that president. No, I want sharp people that serve for a term and then get off. And I want them not to be able to take unlimited gifts. I’m upset with the laws on on my Branch of government. That’s why I don’t trade stocks. Senators shouldn’t trade stocks. This is why I don’t take corporate PAC money. I think we need to up our ethics laws. But dear god, if we did the things that they did, paid speaking from whoever, whatever group wants to bring you in, right-wing group, the lavish gifts, the gifts for their family members. We have a court that is thoroughly corrupt. And the Americans, the trust and the esteem of the Supreme Court has dropped dramatically on both sides of the aisle. We need to reclaim our democracy. We’ve normalized corruption in every Branch of government. It is perhaps the number one cancer that’s hurting our country, because now we have a nation where if you are a large multinational corporation, you can put hundreds of millions of dollars into our elections. Industries are doing that right now, get billions of dollars of benefits. You can rig our tax system by our Supreme Court. And oh, by the way, if you want contracts, now we see it with the ballroom. Give $1 million to Donald Trump’s ballroom."
