Marc Santia: The United States Secret Service Faced a ‘Monumental Task’ Securing the America 250 Celebration
RUSH EXCERPT:
SANTIA: “Yeah, Richard, this is a monumental task for the Secret Service. As you said, the Secret Service has the lead on this event. This event has been designated a national special security event. It’s designated that because of, obviously, the potential risk for any terrorism or criminal activity. So it’s a very high level of security. The Secret Service has the lead now. It took hours for the Secret Service and the federal agents to sweep that area, that enclosed area on the national mall. They had to prepare that area. Once they’re done, that area is considered clean. So that area has been swept. It’s now clean. Everything outside the area is dirty. So when people began lining up today to enter that area, they walked through those magnetometers. They walked through metal detectors, they were screened. They were searched. Once they were screened and searched, they walked into that clean area. They were also clean. So when you had that area, that fenced in area where the president was going to speak, all of that area was screened. It was all set to go."
