Vaughn Hillyard: This Was the ‘First Time in 75 Years’ a U.S. President Delivered a Speech on the National Mall for the Event

‘There was actually quite a lot of resistance to folks leaving in the first place‘

RUSH EXCERPT:

HILLYARD: “The folks that are still here are eager. There was actually quite a lot of resistance to folks leaving in the first place, because you could see the lightning in the perimeter of D.C. but no rain had actually started. When it was announced that folks were to leave. And I think we should be very clear, folks knew that this was going to be a very difficult and chaotic event. Today, we reported at miss now that there was much scrutiny around the production of this event, it didn’t help the fact that this is the first time in 75 years, the president of the United States has come to the national mall to deliver a speech. So typically folks can come, bring a blanket, bring lawn chairs, bring coolers. That wasn’t allowed this time. And we were looking at a day that reached a high of 102 degrees plus humidity. It was treacherous out on the streets that were blocked for several blocks."
