Mike Rowe Responds to Poll Showing Patriotism Is at an All-Time Low in U.S. Ahead of 250 Years
EXCERPT:
ROWE: "Well, look, I’m not a mind reader, but I would say off the top of my head, if you’re not -- if you’re not proud of the country, then it’s possible you might not be up to speed on where the country came from and how the country evolved or maybe how the rest of the countries in the world function. You know, nobody wants a lecture or a sermon or a history lesson, but it’s hard to appreciate who and what we are today unless you really remember who and what we were 251 years ago, you know, back when the American dream was really just a dream, right? So, yeah, to those people, I would say, look, I get it, it’s easy to read all the bad news in the world and come to some short-term conclusion, but if you’re a fan of history and you understand what we did, I mean, we signed a piece of paper that was essentially a death warrant, you know, we were talking about life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That’s what the American dream was. It ended in 1783 when we signed the Treaty of Paris, right? That’s when that dream became a reality. We did it. Like, we’re living in the American reality. And it’s not perfect. We’ll always be a work in progress. But to to l look at the country and say, 'Ah, I’m not that impressed,' I would suggest maybe visit some other countries and look back at our own history and reimagine your world view."
