DE BLASIO: “— such a crucial figure in the growth of the MAGA movement, which to a lot of mainstream Republicans was considered absolutely radical, outrageous things were said by Donald Trump and a lot of other folks in MAGA that never would have been said by Republicans before, and yet it tapped into something that a lot of Americans were concerned about and were feeling. I don’t know why there’s a double standard here. So on the left of the Democratic Party, you’re hearing some really blunt, I don’t agree with all of it, obviously, but some really blunt sense that the status quo is not working in America. I think that’s part of what Donald Trump was saying in his own way. So I don’t think it’s surprising that given everything that’s wrong in our economy, given how much people are struggling to make ends meet, the candidates who are saying this status quo is broken are actually going to get this kind of energy and enthusiasm behind them.”
