Graham Platner: When ICE Poured into Maine, People Mobilized and ‘Rose to the Occasion’

‘People driving around finding ICE vehicles’

TRANSCRIPT:

PLATNER: "Those basic skills, going out and knocking doors, helping put together an event, it’s the relationships that you build doing it that are most important. It’s the people that you meet in your community who you find out are dedicated to the same things you are, who you may not have known if you hadn’t shown up to a canvas launch, if you hadn’t knocked doors with them, going around your neighborhood. And it’s those relationships that translate down the road into the ability to do more. And when ICE poured into Maine back in January, there were a lot of people who immediately rose to the occasion, started building out networks, rapid response teams, people driving around finding ICE vehicles, people helping families shelter in place so they didn’t have to go out and run the risk of being kidnapped."
