Imani Perry: Democracy Requires Action, ‘A Nation Exists in Its Doing’

RUSH EXCERPT:

PERRY: “Yeah. Oh, absolutely. And, you know, one of the things that, I mean, you know, not I think everybody should read America usa, that’s one thing that I think would be especially useful in this moment, because we’re in a moment of deep anti-intellectualism. I mean, an attack on professionalism and attack on knowledge. We see that in every arena. And so then it becomes incumbent upon us as members of this society to educate ourselves, to tell the story true, and to actually engage politically in a multitude of ways. And I also think that helps us sort of board ourselves against the woe is me, right to actually a nation exists in its doing. It’s not an abstraction. It exists in how we live as members of this nation. And so whatever, you know, the, the courage of our convictions actually has to translate into our doings as members of the community.”
