Local Dentist Saves Man’s Life with CPR at Community Event
EXCERPT:
LINDSAY (voice-over): "It was supposed to be just another morning on the pickleball courts in Lake Forest. 58-year-old Jeff Kotkin was enjoying the game — "
KOTKIN: "Finished the game, which of course we had won, and sat down just to get some water."
LINDSAY (voice-over): " — when suddenly his world went black."
KOTKIN: "Next thing I know, I wake up in an ambulance on the way to Orlando Regional Hospital."
LINDSAY (voice-over): "No warning, no time to react. He had suffered a massive cardiac arrest."
KOTKIN: "I could feel the coldness in the air. And other than that, no signs or symptoms. Have no idea that anything wrong was the matter."
LINDSAY (voice-over): "Jeff didn’t have to wait long for help. Standing on that same court was Dr. George Mitrogos."
MITROGOS: "All of a sudden, things got crazy."
LINDSAY (voice-over): "He’s a local dentist, but in that moment, it was what Jeff needed. Doctor Mitrogos jumped into action, starting hands-only CPR while Jeff’s heart was completely still."
MITROGOS "It’s one of those -- if you train enough, meaning if you do your CPR and you renew it every year or every two years, something along those lines, it’s muscle memory.”
