Tenn. State Rep. Pearson: This MAGA Movement Is ‘a New Iteration of the Klan’

PEARSON: “This MAGA movement, like, if we’re honest about it, it is a new iteration of the Klan, right? Like, it is trying to — it has mainstreamed racism. It’s mainstreamed white supremacy. It’s mainstreamed bigotry, homophobia, transphobia, it’s just mainstreamed all the worst of who we are as a country and is giving people license to say, you know what, I can say the things that I used to say when I was in my youth again. I can believe the things that I used to believe back when black folks couldn’t even sit at the same restaurant counter as us again. And in the state of Tennessee, where the Ku Klux Klan was actually founded, we are seeing that mentality of the South rising again, the South rising to fulfill its vision, its mission of white people being on top and everybody else being on the bottom, being instituted into the actions of the legislature.”
