Hakeem Jeffries: ‘In the House of Representatives, We Embrace the Fact that We’re the Institution that the Framers Designed To Be the Closest to the American People’

‘And as a result of that, we stand for reelection or election every other year’

TRANSCRIPT:

JEFFRIES: “Well, the voters will ultimately make those decisions. And in the House of Representatives, you know, we embrace the fact that we’re the institution that the Framers designed to be the closest to the American people. And as a result of that, we stand for re-election or election every other year. The Framers, in fact, said that it’s the House that should be in intimate sympathy with the American people. In order for that to happen, you have to walk amongst the people, be amongst the people, and constantly represent yourself to the American people that you want to represent. And so, that’s what’s happening. It’s democracy in action and we’ll trust what the voters ultimately decide in June.”
