Timothy Snyder: The Lesson from Hungary Is that Big Protest Actions and Elections Work Together
‘You don‘t just wait for Election Day and try to get through to it’
RUSH EXCERPT:
SNYDER: “But politically, it takes some work to put it together. And then in terms of the procedure, the lesson from hungary is that big protest actions and elections work together. You don‘t just wait for Election Day and try to get through to it and hope your votes going to be enough. You have to have a big protest movement to energize people, to teach them their vote as part of something significant and larger, but also, frankly, as a deterrent mechanism. Because if you have big mobilization potential, that makes it harder for people to rig the election.”
