Rep. Smith: Trump’s Goals Was to End Iran’s Nuclear Program and Their Support for Terrorist Org., ‘the War Hasn’t Accomplished Any of That’

‘What Iran is negotiating is we will reopen the strait if you pay us enough money’

RUSH EXCERPT:

Smith: “Well, it just shows how far apart we are from Iran and how pointless this war has been to date. I mean, the president has done a very good job of lying about where we’re at, pretending that we’re somehow close to something that would be passingly acceptable. But the bottom line is our goals. Trump’s goals in this war were to end Iran’s nuclear program in their ballistic missile program, end their support for terrorist organizations in the region. And there was even a hoped for goal of fundamentally ending the Islamic republic, of shifting the regime’s priorities by getting new leadership that would take them in a different direction. So that’s what Trump was trying to do. But the war hasn’t accomplished any of that. And Iran is offering literally None of that right now. What Iran is negotiating is will reopen the strait if you pay us enough money. So basically, it puts us in a worse position before this war started. Now, again, the president has been lying throughout this process about Iran’s begging for a deal. He’s been saying Iran’s been begging for a deal for nine years. Two weeks ago, he pretended that Iran had agreed to everything that I just listed. And for 24 hours, people reported on this as if it was a fact, as if the president wasn’t just making it all up, which he was. And then 24 hours later, people reported on, well, gosh, how did this deal unravel? What I really want people to understand is it wasn’t raffled in the first place. The president doesn’t have Iran anywhere near to agreeing to the things he said. This war was being fought for. Now we’re just trying to figure out how to get the strait open. And the final piece of this, what Trump can hope for is that our blockade will fundamentally change everything. I just said that Iran will change their mind. They will stop putting all that other stuff off the table. Stop just saying, hey, it’s all about the strait and actually negotiate what Trump wants them to. Will that blockade put enough pressure on Iran to cause such a huge change in their negotiating position? Most experts say no, or at least not anytime soon.”
