Kyle Peterson on SCOTUS’ Voting Rights Act Ruling: It’s a Victory for the Constitution

‘Could have said was the Constitution does not permit mapmakers to focus explicitly on race’

RUSH EXCERPT:
PETERSON: "Maybe it’s a different kind of case may be its incrementalism by the chief justice he likes to move one small step at a time. The result of that is the opinion is may be more complicated than it needed to be seemingly efforts to not overrule any of those precedents to keep the chief justice and Brett Kavanaugh on side. But I still think it is a victory for the Constitution. The ruling that could have said was the Constitution does not permit mapmakers to focus explicitly on race. He does not quite go that far he does not overturn the jingles and precedent that lower courts had struggled so long to apply but it is still getting kind into the same sort of resolved."
