Jonathan Turley: When Politicians Campaign to ‘Pack the Court,’ They’re Talking About a Change in Our Constitutional System

TURLEY: "Well, there’s a host of those issues coming before the court, and I expect that they’re going to make fast work of not just existing precedent, but creating new precedent. I’m sure they’ll re-examine dobs, possibly reinstate Roe v. Wade or casey. They will re-examine some of the past decisions. As you note, they were 6-3. Things like bringing control over agency decision making. Those things will be right on top of their list. So the key here is what people don’t understand is when you have politicians now openly campaigning to pack the court, what they’re talking about is a fundamental change in our constitutional system that will have repercussions for generations. And they are trying to do this through Congress because they know the public won’t sign off. You certainly have Democratic politicians in Deep Blue districts running on it, but they know they have to make these changes through Congress."
