Fmr. State Department Adviser: Some of the Points in King Charles’ Speech Were ‘Aspirational’
EXCERPT:
WHITON: “And it’s important — remember, the speech wasn’t just cleared by the government. It was probably drafted in part by the British government, which is deeply unpopular in Great Britain right now because it is very left-leaning, because it doesn’t take illegal immigration seriously, it doesn’t take economic stagnation seriously. It’s actually in 3rd place, the Labor Party, U.K. Reform is the top, then come the traditional conservatives, the Tories, and only then comes the Labor Party. So, the reason I bring that up is that some of these points on Ukraine, on defense, on being together, I think are more aspirational or backward-looking. When he says that Europe and the United States are twin pillars of the future, that’s debatable and I think that’s dubious. I actually think that’s not true. And if you look at what’s happening in the world today, the Middle East, East Asia, that’s where the future is.”
