CBS: A Group of Discount Airlines Is Asking the Trump Admin for $2.5B in ‘Relief’ Amid High Jet Fuel Prices
EXCERPT:
VAN CLEAVE: “Should the federal government put up billions of taxpayer dollars to help discount airlines pay their fuel bill? Well, that's exactly what a group of them are asking. The trade group that represents Frontier, Allegiant, Avelo, Spirit, Sun Country, the discount ultra low cost carriers asking for $2.5 billion from the federal government to help the airlines manage their fuel costs. Of course, the cost of jet fuel has surged, which they say makes it harder for them to offer ultra low cost fares if their costs are surging. They want the government to pony up $2.5 billion that they could use to pay their fuel bill and only their fuel bill. That's separate, it sounds like, from the $500 million bailout Spirit Airlines is asking for in order to stay in business.”
