Brian Stelter on Kimmel: ‘Political Leader Trying to Silence a Comedian’ Is Usually a Story in Autocracies

‘This, of course, is American democracy’

TRANSCRIPT:

STELTER: "When we’re talking about a political leader trying to silence a comedian, that’s usually a story you tell in autocracies. That’s usually a story we read about in dictatorships. This, of course, is the American democracy and it’s another one of the tests that we’ve been through during Trump 2.0. There’s been a lot of these tests at this point where you have the government trying to pressure a media company or trying to pressure a critic. And the good news, as I see it, is that in most of these tests, America’s been passing the test."
