Dem Rep. Mark DeSaulnier on Funding DHS: I Will Not Vote for This Appropriation Bill, This Reminds Me of Germany in the 30s

‘We should be putting more money into making system work for everybody’

TRANSCRIPT:

DESAULNIER: “I haven’t voted nor will I vote for this appropriation bill because of the increase in the Border Patrol. And, unfortunately, all of these put together. We should be putting more money into making the system work for everybody, not in a Border Patrol which, I fear, is a military, paramilitary force, given what I’ve said to you before. Then I — honestly, I fear that this president will try to make into a domestic military force. That is unconstitutional, and this reminds me of Germany in the thirties. I don’t mean to be extremist, but I really think that we have to be very aware, given the budget numbers and the actions of the Border Patrol and its administration. I won’t vote to increase it.”
