Paul Mecurio: America’s Standing as a ‘Global Leader’ Is Being Eroded with Strained Alliances

MECURIO: “Well, I think it’s having a no exit strategy. I think you’re supposed to have an exit strategy first and then a military strategy. And the problem is here, it’s sort of indicative and emblematic of everything that he does, which is like, yeah, we’re just going to wing it. We’re just going to go. We’re going to figure it out as we go, you know, and they and there’s this sense of, I mean, you had a great article, you have a great article. And in it you talk about that, that there’s a longer term and less tangible cost may even be higher, as measured in the strained alliances in Asia and Europe, in the erosion of the very idea of America as a global leader. And that, to me has always been the problem. It’s like we have no credibility abroad.”
