MACCARLEY: “Gosh, you gave me a simple one. No, partly because this is not the first time that this has occurred. Certainly if we reach back, gosh, 40 years or so in the 1980 to '88 Iran-Iraq war, the exact same thing took place. The Iranians did not have much of a military force at that time against Iraq. At that time, Iraq was an ally of the United States. And as an asymmetric defense activity, the Iranians then decided to attack cargo, cargo ships, oil ships within the Persian Gulf. That was one powerful strategy.”
