Maura Gillespie on Iran: If You Don’t Have a Strategy, How Can the People You’ve Bashed and Tariffed Join You
RUSH EXCERPT:
GILLESPIE: "Well, I think they should care about is who are we really aligning ourselves with? You know, the Trump Administration removed sanctions on Russia. So are we now buddying it up with Russia? Is that the plan? I think long-term you have to think about what the impact will be for the next generation if these are who we’re aligning, these are the countries that we’re aligning ourselves with. And, you know, it’s interesting when the president has really bashed NATO for I mean, let’s talk about his first term, but also just this past year and a half or so, and then turns around and says he needs their help and then shocked that they don’t necessarily want to just jump in and engage in a war, that they’re not sure what we’re doing in the first place there. So again, if you don’t lay out what the strategy is and what the goals are, how can you get people who you’ve bashed for over a year and a half, plus your first term to, to join you and to be your ally when you haven’t treated them like friends, when you’ve tariffed them and spoke so poorly of them. And so I think for the American people to pay attention to the fact that there’s long-term implications of the erosion of our relationships and our strongest relationships with that."
