Sen. Coons: ‘The United States’ Most Important Allies in the World Are Our NATO Allies’
RUSH EXCERPT:
COONS: "Yes. Jackie, look, the United States most important allies in the world are our NATO allies. For the decades since the second world war, the United States has depended on close partnerships. Now, for many years, presidents of both parties had complained that our European NATO allies were not bearing enough of the cost of their defense, and President Trump partly ran on. They were not bearing enough of the cost of the war in Ukraine, defending Ukraine against Russian aggression. So last year, our NATO allies genuinely stepped up, and they are now spending tens of billions of dollars more, both on the defense of Ukraine and on their own military security and defense. And what did Trump do after that? Threatened to take Greenland from Denmark, one of our most trustworthy and reliable NATO allies, I led a bipartisan group of senators and house members to go to Denmark during the week that Trump was threatening to either use military force or big tariffs on all of our NATO allies.”
