Rep. Eric Swalwell on Six-Year-Old Deportee: ‘Crushing to Think That This Child Is Without His Devices’

‘We’re seeking humanitarian parole as well for the family‘

RUSH EXCERPT:

SWALWELL: “I have, and I’ve Been speaking with the. Family’s lawyer, and the first request is, just give this boy access to his assistive device, and you don’t have to have little kids that age to understand what this means or doesn’t mean for him. I have an eight year old, a seven year old, and a four year old, and it’s just crushing to think that this child is without those devices, and to see the way that ice officials have been treating individuals who are in custody. I just can’t imagine the terror this boy is facing without being able to understand their basic commands and orders, and the confusion and disorientation he must be going through. So, no, I spoke with the family’s lawyer. That’s our first request. We’re working on that. We’re seeking humanitarian parole as well for the family. And this boy represents, you know, so many Californians and so many across the country who have faced this treatment. I mean, after all, they also deported, you know, a six year old battling stage four cancer who is a us citizen.”
