Pete Buttigieg on Midterms: We Will See Evidence ‘That There’s No Such Thing as a Permanently Red State’ or District
RUSH EXCERPT:
BUTTIGIEG: "Well, the thing that is really striking to me is the off the charts turnout that we saw for Democrats and people voting in democratic primaries in so many places across the country. And when you combine that with the conversations that that I’ve been having traveling the country was recently in Pennsylvania in a couple of districts that I believe will swing from red to blue. What you see is that people are fed up with the leadership that they have. I think that across the country, we are going to see evidence this year that there is no such thing as a permanently red state or a permanently red district. And a few days I will be in the district that was held by Marjorie Taylor Greene, where there is a candidate, an excellent democratic candidate, who I’m backing. Sean Harris will be campaigning with him in northwest Georgia, who is a retired general, was served both in the marines and in the us army and really speaks to the concerns that are on people’s minds. They want leaders who are going to make everyday life more affordable, who are going to focus on who the government should be taking care of. And right now, you’ve got a government that’s not taking care of most people. It’s taking care of the kinds of people who can afford a $1 million entry fee into Mar-a-Lago. It is not taking care of teachers or troops, veterans or firefighters or any of the regular people struggling to get through everyday life in this country today. I think because of that, we have a chance, even for people who usually vote Republican. As a matter of fact, just on the plane to Alabama, somebody came up to me and said, this happens all the time. I’m a Republican, but this has to change and expects and wants there to be change, starting with us Congress, starting with the need for balanced government and for better leadership."
