Sen. Blumenthal: I Want to Hear Sen. Mullin’s Plan to ‘Completely Restructure’ DHS

BLUMENTHAL: “So I think that DHS is hardly out of the woods. But what I want to know of this nominee is how he plans to completely overhaul, not just cosmetic or superficial changes, but completely restructure a department that is out of control. You know, we’ve shown, in the spotlight forms that we’ve held, how they have purposely told agents to break the law. They’ve instructed and trained them to break the law. That was the testimony from a whistleblower. We’ve had people testify about how they were shot after they identified themselves as United States citizens, dragged out of cars, detained illegally. This nominee has to explain how he will completely restructure the operations of this agency. It can’t just be changing the chairs on the deck of the Titanic. The ship is sinking and it has to be completely reformed."
