Dr. Vin Gupta: Trump’s Pick for Surgeon General Isn’t Respected, She Doesn’t Actually Practice the Art of Medicine

‘Nobody in the medical community at scale, you know, aside from fringe elements, believes in her nomination because they don’t believe that she will be an ally’

EXCERPT:

GUPTA: “To claim that there is somehow side effects that we haven't studied or that we don't know certain things is a gross overstatement. And I think reflects the fact that she does not have, Chris, the backing of the medical community. Nobody in the medical community at scale, you know, aside from fringe elements, believes in her nomination because they don't believe that she will be an ally. The surgeon general, we think about iconic surgeon generals like C. Everett Koop, anti-tobacco efforts that he led, Regina Benjamin, and everything she did for preventive screening, Chris. I mean, these are iconic surgeon generals. They were the nation's chief medical communicator. They were not sitting there riffing on wellness, on longevity, on things that did not have an evidence base, much less was adopted by basic medical standards and medical societies. This is not a role where you want to experiment. You want somebody that's an establishment figure, that is respected, that actually practices the art of medicine. And she doesn't do any of those things.”
