John Bolton: ‘I Don’t Think Trump Knows His Objective in Iran’
EXCERPT:
BOLTON: "Well, I don’t think the president knows what his objective is at this point. That's part of the problem. I do think, inevitably, that military force will be used because the president drew a red line last month during the demonstrations in Iran telling the ayatollahs not to execute their people, not to murder them in the street, in fact, exhorted the demonstrators. 'Keep protesting,' he said, 'Take control of your institutions. Help is on its way.' Well, help wasn't on its way. So Trump drew a red line, the ayatollah violated it, killing as many, by some estimates, 30,000 or more people. And if Trump wants to maintain his credibility, I think he has to be indicate the red line through the use of military force. Whether he will do more than that in a strategic sense to help the opposition overthrow this authoritarian, terrorist-sponsoring, nuclear weapons-seeking regime, I don't know. It's what he should do, but I don't think he's made up his mind."
